The Stresses of Being a North American Woman
This one is a classic for North American society. In this culture, all women are supposed to be thin and beautiful. I can’t even imagine the pressure women face to be like this. When I was young it was being “big” and “strong/muscular”, but I don’t know if that’s comparable. I don’t think they would despise me the way a fat or unattractive woman is despised.
Let’s face it. Women are supposed to be thin, but when surrounded by the amount of stress many of them turn to eating. They enjoy various types of food, as well as alcohol. Unfortunately, North American women mistakenly believe that they can “burn off” everything they eat in the gym. A quick fact here: many people burn more calories than they eat during the day. But they still don’t lose weight. Are you wondering how this is possible? Because when a person is toxic, such as from eating junk food, prescription drugs, alcohol, stress, and a variety of other sources, the body absorbs the toxins into fat and will not break down that fat to protect the person from being released back into the body and potentially causing harm. Therefore, no amount of exercise will help shed those pounds, they must be detoxified.
The stress these women face due to being thin certainly contributes to them not being thin.
The second part is really sad, it includes beautiful. There is only so much that can be done to one’s face through cosmetics, fashion, hairstyles and the like. If a person is not that beautiful, it’s hard to change that. It is nature, as well as the opinion of people, under the influence of their social upbringing. It is the height of stupidity to put pressure on someone for things they cannot possibly change. An example of this from my life, which illustrates this, as well as women who shoot themselves in the foot on these issues, is Prince Charles. I remember hearing some of my family members talking about his new wife, Camilla. They only had derogatory remarks about her, based solely on the fact that she is not a classic beauty, and especially not as attractive as Princess Diana. But here you have a rich and powerful man marrying a woman who is probably his best friend and with whom he is very much in love. Obviously there are other options when it comes to potential women, and some of them can be significantly more attractive. But he prefers to marry for love, not for looks. And here are women who say on the surface that they believe that people should marry for love, disapproving of a woman solely because of her looks. Not only is this a sign of stupidity, but women (and my family members are certainly not alone in this) are contradicting themselves in what they say they believe. They should hold this up as an example of how times are changing and how people are more sophisticated in their hearts, with the ability to look beyond what people look like in their hearts and be happy.
In this category, North American women have the same role as all women around the world. It is ingrained in every culture that this role is one in which she will be judged. Ask yourself what your first thought is if you walk into the home of a stay-at-home family or even a working family that is dirty or otherwise untidy. What is your opinion if you see a child who constantly has dirty clothes or poor hygiene? I believe that almost everyone will have the same opinion that the woman involved in these situations does not manage in her role. It’s really not too different around the world.
Have a career
In North America, career women are quite common in professional settings. This is a great thing if that’s what a woman wants. But this woman is likely to face enormous pressure from her family if she has a family to be able to act in the role of wife and primary carer of the child, as shown above. She also faces the problem that if she concentrates on her career and does not have a family, she has somehow failed in her duty as a woman. Although this is not necessarily said to women, those around her certainly understand and feel it. This is another role that can conflict with the one above.
Taking care of the boys
This role is not so well defined, but almost all North American women will attest to it very enthusiastically. By boys we mean grown men who are actually boys. We’ve already defined why these guys are the way they are. But what we haven’t shown is that this is one of the roles for women in addition to the ones listed above. Just as men are “supposed” to rebel against the lack of freedom that comes with being in a relationship or marriage, so women are supposed to control, love and keep them in a relationship, occasionally letting them out to play with their other friends and possibly be “bad”. On a recent trip to China, I toured with about 15 other couples, almost all from Canada. Many of the men in the group were incredibly immature, and the sad part was that some of them were in their fifties. It was like they took every opportunity to “act out”, leaving their wives for fun when a trolley came along, and they hoped and left their wives, drank too much and made themselves even more asses than normal , trying to spend every last penny they had on trash from street vendors, etc. I saw the stress on their wives’ faces, and I really felt for them. I can only imagine what life is like day to day. I’m not saying it’s unacceptable to have fun, I find my days very fun. But it’s not filled with any of the “stress-inducing fun” that the above situation will no doubt cause.
This is another added pressure for women, not only do they have to fulfill all the responsibilities of the roles mentioned above, but they also have to control their partners and keep them in line. This is an incredibly stressful role to maintain and more and more women are subconsciously adjusting to it, probably in perfect correlation with how many men remain boys their entire lives.
