Ahamefule – A Passionate Plea

Ahamefule is one’s name which means “my name must not be lost” or rather “guard the legacy”. It is a name used by Nigerians of Igbo descent. It is an impassioned plea that reminds every Dick and Harry that the name they bear is very important and as a result must be preserved accordingly.

Africans know what it means to keep one’s name and therefore go to great lengths to achieve it. In traditional Africa, whenever a man got married and in time it was discovered that the woman was barren, efforts would be made to either divorce her in order to make room for another woman, who would bear children for the man. If the woman had female children, meaning she would soon marry and take someone else’s name, they would agree to either marry another woman or leave one female child in her father’s house (ie, not give her away). married), so that she could give birth to children who would correspond to her father’s name. In cases of impotence, a man would secretly contract with another man to do the work of a man for his wife, thereby preserving his name through the children that would be born.

Because of this word, SHAMEFUL, people can do anything legitimate or illegitimate to feel they belong. Except for the Igbo people of Nigeria, God has given every being a divine command not to forsake His path. Those who do good in preserving heritage are honored, and as a result, people have struggled to be in God’s good book so that their names are not lost. But no matter how hard they tried, at one point or another, man always tried to go his own way, no matter what God said. According to biblical stories, the land of Egypt once witnessed the tearing apart of what was put together in creation by someone else’s hand, because the pharaoh wanted to glorify himself – a pharaoh who resisted the move of God! And he paid so dearly for that. The reaction/punishment that followed was what Pharaoh needed to acknowledge God’s greater power, for no storm destroyed proud Egypt like a storm from God.

Egypt, which has taken a prominent place in history, has completely forgotten where it came from, even to the point of having a king who did not know Joseph – the man who interpreted the king’s previous dream and then developed and administered Egypt’s famine preparation program. Without Joseph, Egypt might have been ravaged by a devastating seven-year famine. God used him to save Egypt and made him stronger to the point of helping other nations, but Egypt forgot its history and chose a king who had nothing to do with Joseph and his God.

There are so many nations in the world today, like Egypt, which was destined for world leadership under the guidance of Almighty God. There is no doubt that God richly blessed those nations because of the righteous principles on which they were founded. With all the government at work in many of these nations, interested in almost everything the people do, these nations seem to be intoxicated with the deadly poison of sin. At the root of sin is the absence of true fathers in our world. The problem of sin is the problem of paternity, because sin is the result of man, Adam, who declared independence from God, his Source and Father. Adam believed that he did not need a father and that he could be a father without a Father. Then the human race fell into rebellion against God, and as a result, man could be considered a “fatherless child” because of his choice. Imagine being an orphan by choice, homeless by choice, etc. How tragic! Could this be the story of your beloved nation? I asked because all the laws your country could have made are not able to save a man or woman from sin. When lawmakers tried to pass a bill, a bill that would ban anti-homosexual speech in many of our countries today, did your fear rise, just like mine? I was worried because that one law could have thrown most of the world’s population in jail for breaking it. I mean the people who would rather listen to God than men; people who cannot stand or tolerate certain ungodly acts that are unknowingly creeping into today’s societies.

Undoubtedly, the world is a beautiful place with many good things that make all its inhabitants jealous. Many of these nations of the world are founded on righteous principles, but sinful men have gotten into government, some of them openly homosexual, working day and night to promote and even harder to enact evil laws. These men do not know, or are careless of the divine or righteous principles upon which these nations are founded, which is equal to the king of Egypt who did not know Joseph.

Many of us have come to a place where God is not even allowed in sporting events, schools and government buildings, but is allowed in prisons. In prison you can worship God whenever you want. You can take whatever faith you want. In fact, the government must provide religion for inmates in prisons. They give them New Testament Bibles, but still forbid people to bring those Bibles to school for any reason – maybe God is not allowed in schools so He will have no place in the hearts of the children. Imagine ordinary people tampering with God’s absolutes.

Today, atheists even question the oath of allegiance of many countries. In so many places, ninety percent of the people are against removing pious phrases embedded in their countries’ currencies, buildings, public schools, etc. It’s surprising that judges and legislators often listen to the 10 percent, but no one is sure if an activist judge will one day, if it appears, put your stamp on it. In this generation, a man woke up one morning accusing and suing God in court. A man who has been a senator for 38 consecutive years representing a part of his country’s state. He accused God of causing death, destruction and terrorism.

His charge suggested that people had the right of attorney to accuse God in any case. People should sue God every time they lose a loved one, especially as a result of drug abuse. People should sue God for failed elections; for getting injured under the influence of alcohol, etc., because God created everything, be it good or bad. Perhaps the man wanted the judge at the trial to drag God to his court, condemn Him and then imprison or hang Him. It still baffles me what he actually wanted. Was he trying to immortalize his name simply by trying to challenge God to a duel? That’s an insult. Men can do or say anything given the opportunity to fill their stomachs with bottles of alcohol and bowls of food. Isn’t it a shame that many scary university libraries in some countries are full of all kinds of books, except the Book of books – the Bible. You dare not find a copy, not even in the reference sections.

When evil practices increase, the distinction between right and wrong becomes blurred and as a result, people question this and that, hoping to get their way in everything. A nation that is built on divine principles and values does not throw morality to the dogs. In one of the African countries, a man who was known for his controversial lifestyle was accused of divorcing his 19-year-old wife, whom he married at 17, in order to settle down with a 13-year-old girl. Being a legislator, this man was part of the group that signed the Child Rights Act, which prohibits marriage to underage women. Today, that same man hides under the mantle of religion that frees him from all insults, but he still serves civil society, not a religious group. When he was the governor of the state, he forced his people to practice a culture of modest dress, regardless of their age, and he did well to settle quickly with his alleged opponents, without going to court to find loopholes. Nevertheless, through the courts, many people cast a torrent of sin on their nation. Right now, babies can be killed under the protection of the law, against God’s express command, “Thou shalt not kill” (Exodus 20:13).

Marriage, which is God’s will for man, has been discredited to the point where couples actually live together before marriage, and divorce is gradually becoming the norm. The feminist movement, which opposes God’s standard of wife’s submission to her husband, does not help matters. A married woman should know that God planted her in the home to take care of him, keep the house clean, put a meal on the table, do the laundry and make the beds, not to wander around the whole neighborhood. In the home, parents adequately take care of their children, and not raise them in a crèche, because the home is designed as a refuge for children.

The enemy of our lives, Satan, is earnestly fighting against all that is good in us, even in our nation; so we must fight him and not give in to his pranks or tricks. Just like the men who founded many of the great nations of the world, we too must never give up, but rather press onward and upward to our ultimate rewards, so that our names should not be lost. We should remember that righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any nation, so we must learn again to walk on the righteous principles upon which our great nations were built. God requires 100 percent obedience from us – we cannot be His children and act like orphans constantly disobeying Him. Our attitudes should not portray us as orphans or bastards – we have a Father who loves us and cares for us. So let us oppose Satan’s evil tendencies against us and our nations because we did not come from the blue – we have an origin; present and future. God bless the world, again and again.
