One of the most important things for today’s teenagers is acceptance and the desire to fit in, and weight and appearance play a major role in this. If your teenager is overweight or just wants to shed some extra fat, this can be achieved by eating the right foods and choosing and sticking to a good exercise program.

There are some things you can’t control, like puberty and genetics. Both boys and girls gain weight and height during puberty because hormones are released that cause an increase in muscle mass in boys and body fat in girls.

Genetics is also a factor in teenage weight gain. You inherit many things from your parents, such as how tall you will be and what shape your body will be. If your parents are overweight, then it increases the chances that you will be overweight too.

While you may not be able to control puberty or genetics, you can control your diet. By eating the right foods and avoiding foods such as French fries, fast food, fizzy drinks, chips and sweets, you can avoid adding extra calories and fat to your intake. You must eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables in your daily diet.

Teens should also get adequate exercise. Sitting and watching television or playing most video games can increase the weight problem of teenagers. Being inactive can have a big impact on your waistline and your health. They need to get outside and get some form of physical exercise. Even walking is a great way to get good exercise and lose weight.

They also need to drink a lot of water. It’s a proven fact that water helps with weight loss, and it’s also good for your metabolism, as well as other parts of your body, including your kidneys.
