Take Care of Your Posture
The topic of this article was determined by my patients. Suddenly, the problem of scoliosis in children and young people was revealed. Most patients seem to be from this statistical group. In most cases, these are boys and girls who noticed their abnormal posture: a bent back with one or two shoulder blades protruding. They visited doctors who explained to them that it was possible at their age and that nothing could be done; in special cases, they advised surgery and wearing a special corset. Many of them did not accept these recommendations and continued to look for a solution that, in my opinion, was absolutely correct. But, unfortunately, not all treatment methods can lead to recovery.
According to my patients, they most often go to modern gyms with lots of treadmills and other simulators. The attempt to develop muscle resulted in an even more extensive back problem – a curvature of the spine. Just think: a boy or a girl grows up fast; the bone tissue is still very young and weak like a sprout, which needs some time to become a strong trunk. And at that time, you strain your arms and back, but actually your bent spine, which bends even more during exercise in the gym – you break it. The muscle tissues of the back fail to keep up with the growth of bone tissue. You can start developing the muscles of your arms in a sitting position only after you have completed your physical development and strengthened your back muscles. Otherwise it’s dangerous!
And one more important moment: in a sitting position, the pressure on the spine increases several times compared to the load in a standing position. What if someone sits for hours incorrectly – bent spine? This is when a conscious protrusion occurs.
If the child plays a sport that involves an additional load on one arm, such as tennis or baseball, it is necessary to provide a similar load on the other arm.
Carrying a person is related to the position of the spine and is determined by static conditions, which, due to the vertical position of the person, are significantly different from those of all animals. Changes in the position of the spinal column can be in the form of distortions of various types, such as scoliosis, pathological lordosis and kyphosis. Scoliosis is a lateral curvature that is one of the most widespread and complicated diseases of the bone system. Scoliosis is found much more often than it is thought.
The first manifestations of scoliosis can be diagnosed in early childhood, but it becomes most obvious at school age (10-15 years).
Parents, be careful! Your child’s back problems will not go away on their own.
Periodic control at home does not last longer than one minute. I would like to mention the following symptoms of the development of scoliosis that can be observed during the examination:
- asymmetry of the clavicles
- deviation of the spine from the midline
- asymmetry of the shoulder blades
- asymmetry of the distance between the angle of the shoulder blades and the line of the (bearded) appendix
- asymmetry of “lumbar triangles”
- muscle bulge
- asymmetry of the upper border of the buttocks
Changes in the spine can cause pain of different intensity, localization and duration, which significantly worsen the quality of life of a person, and affect the functions of various organs and systems of the body. It is about the fact that the nerves coming out of the spinal cord on the periphery pass through the openings between the vertebrae, which are separated from each other by elastic cartilage. All changes in the normal anatomical and physiological interrelationships between the vertebrae affect the nerve conduction and regulatory function of the spinal cord.
There are cases when, due to functional changes in the spine, pain reverberates in different organs, for example, in the heart or stomach. Very often this leads to situations when patients are treated for diseases that do not exist.
In the arsenal of methods for treating diseases of the spine, especially recently, chiropractic therapy methods have proven to be the most effective in the presence of an experienced specialist who will help correct caries. Also, it is necessary to balance the diet: the organism of newlyweds needs the right amount of natural vitamins and minerals that can be obtained from a well-chosen diet. At the same time, a young body requires special physical exercises that will help strengthen the back muscles.
