Big Muscles On Small Bones

I grew up a skinny, skinny kid. Throughout elementary school, I only knew one kid who was thinner than me. I had no natural genetics to fall back on. When I became interested in building my body at the age of 15, I felt like I was fighting a losing battle, so to speak. I started working out at 15, but started serious bodybuilding (not competing) at 16. I finished my freshman year of high school as a skinny guy who was usually picked last or almost last for teams. I returned to school after summer break as a sophomore with a new body with big, handsome muscles. This is a true story! Some of my friends that I’ve known since elementary school said, “What happened to you?” “Now you’re crazy!”

Well, let me tell you what happened to me. I received some very valuable information when I ordered the bodybuilding course. This course included both weighted and non-weighted workout routines sent to me weekly. I applied these routines as well as tips on eating the right kind of muscle building foods. Shortly after that I joined the YMCA in the area and began training with a teenage bodybuilder who had placed highly in several bodybuilding competitions. He later won the Teen Mr. competition. USA. When I went back to school, I was no longer the skinny kid who was picked last for teams. Now I was strong, muscular and had become quite athletic.

I became so strong and muscular that I was chosen to have my picture posed in the yearbook. I joined the weightlifting team, representing our high school in several competitions against other schools. I won first place in my weight class and helped our team win first place overall in the country. I’m saying all this about myself to say that being skinny and small-boned is no excuse not to build muscle on your little body. Don’t use your genetics as an excuse.

There are some advantages to having small bones when it comes to building muscle. For example, small wrists and ankles will create the illusion that your forearms and legs are bigger than they are when building muscle. You see, it is almost impossible to build muscle size in the wrists and ankles because they are primarily bone and tissue. You can see in my picture that my wrists are small. Likewise, by generally looking at the size of a man’s wrists or ankles, you can tell what his genetics were to begin with and how small-boned he was before he built muscle on his body.

Building quality muscle on a small frame is not only possible, but can also be an advantage due to the “illusion factor”. Your arms and legs can look bigger and more impressive, not to mention the fact that you’ll normally carry less body fat. So stop making excuses about your genetics and do what I did; build those muscles!
