The Divine Purpose of the Paradigm Shift

When I woke up this morning, an unexpected memory came to me. I remembered my mother telling me as a child, “It is not for us to reason why. It is only for us to do or die.” I had no idea what she meant by this. Actually, I didn’t know what that meant when it came to me this morning. I discovered that this famous saying was written by Lord Alfred Tennyson, a British poet who lived during the 19th century. I felt that the memory had come to me for a reason, so I decided to give it some thought.

In less than an hour, I discovered the relevance and meaning of this saying at the heart of a fast-moving global transformation. Before I give my humble interpretation of Tennyson’s wise saying, I want to share something that should explain my feelings about why a “paradigm shift” has come upon humanity. The following paragraphs discuss pet overpopulation. I use this discussion as an analogy to explain my view of this unprecedented cosmic event.

Anyone who has been to my website knows that I am passionate about dogs, especially my own. About two months ago, my wife and I went to animal control to get our dogs licensed. While we were waiting, we saw an abandoned dog being carried in the back to be euthanized. My wife got upset and said, “How could anyone do that!” She was referring to a person who euthanizes unwilling animals. The woman who gave me the dog tags replied “We didn’t create the problem.”

I share my wife’s pain over this tragedy. I am the first person to speak out against animal abuse. However, I have to agree with the animal control officer. They are not responsible for this disturbing situation. The person injecting the needle only does what needs to be done. I know how painful it is to lose a pet. About four years ago I had to put down my thirteen year old German Shepherd. It was the worst thing I ever had to do. I understand that many dog lovers will refuse to accept what I am about to say.

Once upon a time, dogs lived in the wild. A few centuries ago, dogs could fend for themselves. I’m not sure how or when it happened, but humans domesticated all canines. I read that the domestication of canines began about 33,000 years ago. The socialization of this once sovereign species has accelerated recently. Yes, dogs are wonderful companions for humans. Dogs are like children to many owners. Our dogs love us too. There is no doubt about it. However, dogs are completely dependent on their owners for all their needs. There was a time when professional dog trainers did not exist. Many centuries ago there were no “dog whisperers”. Now we walk the dogs around on leashes, and they have to ask us to go potty.

Sometimes I regret that my dogs do not remember the independence of their ancestors. Of course I love my dogs. I would never give them up. Yet we have done our canine friends an injustice by depriving them of their self-sufficiency. We have drained the spirit of a magnificent species. Once again I think of the pet overpopulation epidemic. If what I am saying is untrue, then how did this unspeakable tragedy come about? This should never have happened.

If I left my Labrador and Jack Russell in the middle of any city, I’m sure they would die within weeks (I would never do that). They wouldn’t know how to protect themselves or find food. Dogs have lost their ability to survive. On a side note, I admire my Jack Russell for his defiant nature. Although I admit it drives me crazy.

There are too many unwanted pets in this country. The only way to get rid of this problem is to put them down. There are altruistic people who do their best to save pets from euthanasia. I applaud their efforts. However, the non-profit agencies involved in saving our furry friends are few and far between and lack the necessary resources to address this dire situation.

Now I’m going to turn the spotlight on us. The citizens of the world have renounced the power of corrupt political leaders. There are always people ready to accept positions of power. Many will take it from their people by force and become dictators. There is a wise saying: “Extreme power corrupts in the end.” Corruption is absolute in every government. The human ego is completely incapable of dealing with power. People misunderstand the nature of power. Human interpretation of what he perceives as power always manifests as violent control over his fellow man.

At this point in history, it is obvious that the people have chosen to give their power to immoral politicians. The reason is that we want our leaders to take care of us. We no longer want to take responsibility on ourselves. This statement is correct. We run to our political leaders to solve every issue, no matter how trivial. In America, people feel the need to let the government decide who can have children, who can marry, and even how much soda we can drink.

Our failed health care system is a reflection of our willingness to give away our power in exchange for care and protection. We put our precious health in the hands of medical doctors of all people to solve even the smallest health problems. The answer to our complaints almost always comes in the form of a pill. This situation has resulted in the formation of a huge multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical industry. We have become dependent on pharmaceutical companies for the health care we need. The most insidious pharmaceuticals are those that manufacture psychiatric drugs such as Ritalin, Prozac and Risperdal. Interestingly, it is the failure of the pharmaceutical industry to live up to its fantastic promise of pain relief that has led many to alternative medicine.

Our elected leaders are more than happy to “take care of us”. I would like to say that it is a silent and deceptive process. The truth is that the “free” people of the world have unwittingly allowed their governments to become ungovernable monsters. Thousands of irresponsible American citizens have outsourced the parental role to government workers. All states felt it necessary to create a department of social services to deal with the appalling prevalence of child abuse and neglect in this country. The Department of Social Services is not intended to be a substitute for mature, loving caregivers.

We have allowed a monstrous, bureaucratic and failed government to regulate every aspect of our lives. Eventually the government will tell us when we can go potty. I can see that this is an ominous direction in which the world is going.

This is a sad testament to the state of society in this so-called enlightened age. People have become too comfortable letting the governments of the world meet their needs. We expect our political leader to provide us with health care, pensions and many other social benefits. This policy worked for a long time. The problem I see now is that most of us have lost the will to live. We have stopped growing as individuals and as a race.

The truth is simply that we made this bed, and now we have to lie in it. I can tell you that a paradigm shift will cause great disruption in our lives as this celestial event progresses. I believe that this is necessary for global transformation to take place. Out with the old and in with the new. The world cannot have what transformation promises us until the old paradigms are completely removed.

It is obvious where the global economy is going. Our most cherished institutions are sinking fast. Please understand that I am not predicting things to come. I’m not in the habit of predicting the future. Nor do I see the need to recount the leading news headlines of the past five or six years to support what I am saying. What I see in the world is what everyone on the planet should see.

A paradigm shift is not about death and destruction. I believe it symbolizes rebirth. It is about awakening in mass consciousness. It is a divine decree for global transformation. The people of the “free world” have become too comfortable in their routines. We fell into a deep sleep. The paradigm shift aims to shake us up and out of our slumber. Unfortunately, it takes an event of this magnitude to wake people up to the reality of their sorry state.

To enter this new age of consciousness, we must be willing to let go of our limiting beliefs and embrace a new way of thinking. For most people, this simple task will be nearly impossible. For thousands of years, people have allowed their egos to get out of control. Our reckless behavior has caused significant damage to the sustainability of the planet. It has also hindered the spiritual growth of our collective consciousness.

To achieve this next stage of cosmic understanding, humans will be required to let go of their desire to control their environment and dominate the life forms within it. Control is a misguided attempt to change others in an effort to conform to our own distorted beliefs. This behavior is no longer acceptable. These destructive beliefs required the Shift we are now experiencing.

I would ask that we look within ourselves and consider whether our beliefs are as valuable as our personal and worldly relationships. I believe that examining the relative importance of our beliefs is key to understanding how they influence our attitude and behavior. Many of our most cherished beliefs are detrimental to the spiritual evolution of the human race. Letting go of our harmful belief systems allows others to be who they are. Are we willing to do that?
