Pursue Peace With All People Through Forgiveness and Tithe to the Lord, Hebrews 12:14
Nowhere in the Bible do I see a statement that we need only pray the sinful prayer, go to church and continue in our sin and lusts and we will be welcomed into heaven.
This verse describes the people who will be found in heaven
Hebrews 12:14 (New King James Version)
14 Strive for peace with all men and for holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: Does this seem easy to you? Is there anyone you don’t like? Do you not love Catholics and show them the true gospel every time you meet them without judgmental tones, but do you lead them to a full saving knowledge of Jesus?
How are you with Muslims? Do you love them and are you full of grace and peace with them? What about Asians and Chinese especially when they push in front of you as they enter the bus and look rude chatting in their own language in your country? What’s your attitude there? Do they have to speak your language in your country or are they allowed to speak their native language?
How is that relationship with that man who bullied you as a child? Do you also have a loving word and a smile for him? Are you at peace with a vile man who has hurt you in so many ways? Do you have racism in you and what colors the way you treat people? How does a junkie treat you when he asks you for change? Does he get it with a smile and a little tract you keep in your bag?
How is that ex-wife of yours? Are you satisfied with her knowing that she took your house and children and made you look like a fool to the world? Do you have a smile for her and are you willing to give her a few hundred for the fridge when hers breaks? How do you treat that man who married your ex-wife? Is he welcome for a game of chess or a beer with friends? Do you love him and cling to him with a tight, friendly hug even if he seduced her from your bed into his?
I guess I’m talking about this verse
1 John 5:18 (New King James Version)
18 We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who is born of God keeps himself, and the evil one does not touch him.
If you have bitterness or racism or unforgiveness in you, then the evil one has touched you and you are sinning. Your enemy does not have to repent, you must forgive and turn the other cheek. The evil one wants you to go to hell and wants your prayer life to be stagnant and wants your prayers to be ineffective and if you are knowingly in sin, you can be sure that God will not feel obligated to answer any of your prayers.
We must love everyone because that is part of being holy and set apart for God. We must be different people. We must be people who do things that are strange and different from the rest of the world. We must have light within us and we must have that light that burns so brightly that people come to us. The love of Christ must be manifested in us and must draw all people to tell us why we are joyful and we always smile and love them regardless of their sin, race or culture.
1 John 4:7-8 (New King James Version)
7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 He who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
We are commanded to love all men, and especially to show mercy to our enemies so that Christ by our example may melt their hearts with their continued forgiveness. I don’t know about you, but it’s hard sometimes to show love to someone who is determined to destroy your reputation and slander you around the world you live in. But you must love and you must feed and bless him, that is the only way to have peace and to have your prayers answered. If we do not show mercy to another who has wronged us, we hate them.
1 John 4:19-21 (New King James Version)
19 We love him because he first loved us. 20 If someone says: I love God, but hates my brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? 21 And we have this commandment from Him: that he who loves God must also love his brother. Oh, you’ll dismiss this verse and say I don’t hate it. I just don’t like it. But if you don’t release him and forgive him, you are doing the opposite of love. This is the verse that God brought me to, to give me a breakthrough with a former friend who became my enemy. I had a love/hate relationship and God showed me that I needed to get the hate out of it and change it to love/grace
The hatred and fear of others belongs to the world. If we cannot trust God to fight our battles and go to various ways of solving our problems through gossip, slander and unforgiveness, we are fundamentally connected to the fear of our enemy and our situation. The only way to get through is to receive God’s love into our heart and apply that love and grace to the person who is hurting us.
1 John 4:15-18 (New King James Version)
15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. 16 And we knew and believed in the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever remains in love remains in God, and God in him.
17 Love is perfected among us in this: that we have boldness on the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torture. But he who is afraid is not perfect in love. We should kneel and fast and pray and seek to abide in Jesus and return to walking with Him. We need to love God and repent of our fear and our foolish ways of dealing with our enemy in the way we think best, and then when we ask for grace to love our brother God will give it and we will find ourselves overwhelmed with tears and love as we pray that our the brother saw the error of his ways. Jesus prayed for us on the cross, and we were His enemy mocking Him at the foot of the cross. Don’t scoff today as you read this. Honor Jesus and forgive your brother who harms you and turn away from your childish ways of justifying and dealing with the things of the flesh.
If you do not turn the other cheek and forgive 70 times 7 then you are not doing the right thing and therefore you are not righteous
1 John 3:7 (New King James Version)
7 Little children, let no one deceive you. He that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as He is righteous. Don’t be fooled and don’t be fooled. If you throw into prison a person who owes you a little, then the Master who freed you from a lifetime of sin will throw you into hell. Want to prove this is true? Simply hold bitterness in your heart on your deathbed and you will go to hell and then it will be too late. That is why only people who strive for peace and a holy life will see the Lord. And don’t postpone fasting and prayer so that you can forgive, repent and kneel because the Master is right now at the door and will only take obedient holy people with him. 2 Peter 3:10-11 (New King James Version)
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with burning heat; and the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. 11 Therefore, since all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in holy conduct and godliness,
There are no excuses for disobeying Jesus. No excuses! We must stop sinning and begin to obey the Word of God and walk with the mind of Christ
1 Peter 4:1-2 (New King James Version)
1 Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the body, arm yourself with the same mind, because he who suffered in the body has ceased from sin, 2 so that he no longer lives the rest of his time in the body for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.
We must be separate and not walk like the world and its lusts. We should not drink and be merry, take wives and be merry. We should clean ourselves and be holy and put on our wedding clothes and proper clothes and do the works of righteousness that we are saved to do and we should have a pure religion in our lives that is full of giving and charity and different from the world.
James 1:27 (New King James Version)
27 Pure and undefiled faith before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself undefiled from the world. This is not just helping widows and orphans. While your money going to missions that care for orphans abroad is a good investment, this is a church that makes sure that single mothers without jobs and divorced mothers and children have enough support and their children have a good father to support them from the church.
To be unnoticed by the world would be to put at least ten percent of your income on the plate to offer every weak, instead of the 3% western handouts. Want to give to another ministry? Make it an offering above your 10% tithe. Don’t think your church is worth your money, well find a church that is and go there. If you think that tithing is not relevant in the New Testament, consider what Jesus said about denying yourself, taking up your cross and following him. If you do not tithe 10% you are saying that you do not believe in God and that you are seen with the world in this behavior. The apostle rebuked me in love in this region and now I give tithes.
Maybe you have a false teaching saying that tithing is not something we have to do these days, so you are basically saying that, I repeat, you have more faith in your money than in God as a provider.
Today I didn’t have enough money for a coffee at my favorite coffee shop where I read the Bible every day and where I pray and sit in a good seat without shopping. The owner kindly asked me to move to another location as his paying customers needed mine. As I am regular, I apologized for not having any money today. He said that was fine and I moved.
A minute later a man came up to me and gave me four dollars and said it was for my coffee. He heard me talking to the manager and the Holy Spirit put it on his heart to call me coffee.
Don’t tell me the Lord can’t provide for you if you tithe 10%. You just lack faith. Tempt the Lord for six months and a tithe and watch overtime and miracles begin to happen in your life.
If you have been convicted of what I have said so far, you must obey the Word of God that I have used to support what I have said. If you don’t, Satan is not your enemy, it is you.
James 1:22 (New King James Version)
22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. Don’t be tempted to ignore my advice about forgiveness or tithing, because that temptation does not come from God. Go ahead and start tithing. If you are giving to a ministry, withdraw your support if you cannot afford both. No ministry has the right to ask for your support without admonishing you to tithe to your church first.
Tithing is hard, but you will be surprised that Jews tithe more than you do. You may be surprised that even many non-Christians tithe 10% of their income and teach this in their books citing the Bible as a source. Only these guys often give their money to good charities.
Jesus said to put our hand to the plow and not turn away from it. He told us to preach the gospel to all people. He told us that we are not worthy of Him unless we are willing to leave our family, friends, homes and possessions for His sake.
He said that He is the pearl of great price and that we should sell everything to buy Him. He said that He is the hidden treasure in the field and that when we find Him, we should sell everything we own to possess Him. He said that if we want to be perfect, we should sell everything, give to the poor and follow him. Jesus was not a man of money and he did not leave money with the apostles when they returned to fishing.
Is Jesus worth forgiving your enemies, is it worth studying other faiths and their strengths so you can love them more? Is he worth giving 10% of your money and is he worth following and obeying in everything you do and say?
If you are convicted, if you need to forgive, take the time to do so. If you don’t tithe, don’t put it off, just step out in faith and start.
