Sexy Panties – Why Men Love Them and Women Need Them

There is a difference between women’s underwear and sexy panties. Underwear is functional. It is worn for sanitary purposes. Sexy panties are about femininity, self-expression and style. Sexy panties are perhaps the only item of clothing that can affect the mood of both women and men.

While panties may have evolved over the years as the epitome of female sexuality, they didn’t start out that way. Their original purpose was to conceal and minimize feminine traits.

The first “panties” were the brainchild of Elizabeth Miller, but were revised by Amelia Bloomer during the 1850s. These were essentially long, loose pants that ended at the ankles (known as “blumers”). At the end of the 18th century, blazers were given two more designations – breeches and breeches.

When the Roaring 20s arrived, which marked the end of World War I, young women began to wear shorter skirts for greater comfort while dancing. With all the kicking going on, underwear went from being a private garment to a potential public display of intimate fashion wear.

As a result, the first pastel panties were designed, and the word “underwear” first appeared in public. The term underwear comes from the French word ‘lin’ which means linen. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was still called underwear and was worn mainly for hygienic purposes. It was the time when the flowering plants began to shrink.

FREDERICK OF HOLLYWOOD

In the 1940s, Frederick’s of Hollywood set up shop in Hollywood. They started making nicer lingerie, underwear and corsets. Many viewed this more fashionable undergarment as “whore” clothing. After all, why would a respectable woman need raunchy panties?

Therefore, any beautiful and/or fashionable clothing worn under clothing was considered underwear; which was associated with bad girls doing bad things…that men loved. Frederick’s of Hollywood still carries this stigma today and as a result, has been overshadowed by Victoria’s Secret as a more “respectable” lingerie retailer.

Colorful, bright, sexy and sparkling fashions of women’s underwear have become available. More fabrics like cotton, satin, lace, and silk began to be incorporated into the makeup of women’s underwear, making it more desirable for women and more sensual for men.

SEXUAL REVOLUTION

This is perhaps the big turning point when panties became more than just hygiene products and were seen as a symbol of sexuality and eroticism around the world.

During the 1960s, there was a stir over the old, traditional views of women’s underwear, which some people wanted to look more like the female anatomy. Female anatomy was largely misunderstood due to censorship of the subject. Some feminists have complained that traditional women’s underwear was created to impose control and distort the appearance of women’s figures (which it originally did).

This movement has caused many women to take a new look at their underwear. Underpants began to more closely resemble the female anatomy as designers experimented with different cuts and fabrics. The panties became smaller and skinnier and began to be more overtly sexualized.

Then came the 70s and sexual liberation. Inhibitions decreased, and with it the tolerance for granny panties (as bloomers were now called).

THONG

Although many credit Rudi Gernreich with introducing the first modern thong in 1974 – in this country – the Egyptians were actually, conceptually, one of the first people to wear them. The loincloth, worn thousands of years ago, was probably the first undergarment worn by humans and evolved into thongs over the years. So, ironically, it was first worn by men in ancient times before evolving into a part of women’s underwear in modern times.

Thongs, originally called V-backs, are a special type of underwear that rises high on the hips and leaves the lower part almost completely exposed. For many years they were also worn by exotic Brazilian dancers during the festival. Thongs also became popular during the 80s in South America and were used as swimwear on beaches. The popularity of thongs spread to various parts of the world in the late 80s.

In the US thongs had to be accepted before they became popular. Early ’90s R&B vocalist Sisqo and his famous “Thong Song” helped with both. Today, thongs are one of the best-selling styles of underwear in the world. The size of the underwear industry is said to be over $2 billion a year. The rest is history.

Since most articles of this nature are written by women, I thought it would be nice to offer a male perspective on the sexuality of various types of panties and why men love them.

G-STRINGS

Commonly called a “butt string” because they’re made of the least amount of material, G-strings are women’s best defense against panty lines. They are almost invisible under tight or tight pants. G-Strings look best on a woman who has a rounder, more defined butt.

For women who lack plumpness in that area, a triangle back G-string will add more definition to your bum and make it look rounder the way thongs do. Thongs are best for visually enhancing and adding definition to less defined buttocks.

MICRO G-LATHES

This is a relatively new G-string. It has a low front panel, which makes it smaller but G-strings. Although I like the concept and the visual, the Micro G-Strings look very impractical and a bit uncomfortable, but very, very erotic. Perhaps best for “situational” use.

V-STRINGS

These are a hybrid between a thong and a G-string. They have more material and cover more of the bottom than G-strings. They also provide more butt definition for those who need it but don’t have the comfort of a G-string.

C-STRINGS

A C-String is a type of thong that only has a thin string connecting the front part that covers the vagina. Unlike the more popular G, V, and T strings, the C string does not feature a waist band. It is held in place by a flexible frame that “clips” to the body. It looks more like a space-age medical device, but apparently it’s easy to remove…which can have its advantages.

T-TONGS OR T-SIDES

These thongs have a wide belt around the back. The T shape is made by joining the part of the belt that connects to the back material of the thong. This thong version may be the real one least a favorite among men. It looks and feels like a belt. The material at the waist seems excessive.

BOY SHORTS

Boy’s briefs, also known as boy’s briefs, boy’s cut, booty shorts, shorts, touch briefs or boy’s briefs are a type of underwear that reaches all the way down to the hips. Some stop below hip length to reveal part of a woman’s “cheeks” for grooming. They are similar in style to men’s boxers – but narrower and of course much sexier. Men love them because they are fun, flirty and sensual. If you have a nice, plump, round butt, boy shorts will emphasize your assets.

BIKINI PANTS

The classic bikini is still sexy – subtle but sexy. They come in many varieties. Bikini underwear can refer to almost any undergarment that covers less of the midriff than traditional underwear, briefs or knickers. As much as men love the aforementioned briefs, bikini briefs tend to outshine most briefs in women’s underwear.

INTERESTING TRENDS…BRA FOR THE ASS?

The butt bra is said to increase the lift, shape and volume of the butt, while flattening the lower abdomen and shaping the thigh. That’s plenty to deliver. My research found their average price to be $64.

How does it work? According to one website:

“Made with 3 high-tech layers…an inner and outer silky-soft layer made from a nylon/spandex blend creates a smooth, seamless look under clothing. High compression latex middle layer provides breathable and flexible tummy slimming. A creative solution for those who want the illusion of slim and toned thighs, tummy tuck and butt lift without the use of padding.”

BUTT PANTS

These are bikini-style briefs with a peephole or string at the back, so named for the “cleavage” look they create. They don’t do much for men; although they seem to give women more air, if they so desire.

BACKLESS PANTS

These are…interesting briefs that completely remove the fabric from the back and are held in place by a band under the butt. Hmm…I don’t see the point of them.

On Flirty Lingerie website I read the most powerful and intelligent statement about sexy panties…written by a woman:

“When a woman walks past a mirror, she can stop to see if everything is put together. This includes her hair, make-up, teeth and so on. She never focuses on the panties she’s wearing and maybe rightly so. I’m not advocating that a woman should examine underwear during the day for obvious reasons. On the other hand…the clothes a woman wears speak volumes about her sense of style, fashion sense and personality, so the choice of panties can and does make a difference in a woman’s wardrobe.”

I couldn’t agree more.
