Spring and Summer Are Baby Gift Basket Months

Baby Gift Basket Trends: With over 25 years of experience in the gift basket industry, I have noticed many interesting trends. One of the most interesting is the sale of gift baskets for babies throughout the year.

Although the average price spent on a baby gift basket varies depending on the economy, (in 2007 the average money spent on a baby gift basket was $150, in 2009 the average purchase dropped to around $120), one thing remains the same. There is a clear increase in the purchase of baby gift baskets during the early summer to early fall. Now there could be many reasons for that, but we came to our own fun and interesting conclusions:

– At this age, go, go, go, maybe births are planned for this time of year, because it seems to everyone that the schedule slows down more. In many industries, the summer months tend to be slower (although garden stores, camping and boating stores would disagree!) Having a baby during these slower times reduces the burden on the employer and eliminates the stress and guilt on the employee of requiring time off.

– Maternity leave during the summer months is desirable because you are able to do more with the baby. Who wants to bundle up a colicky baby for a walk in two meters of snow?! It’s so much nicer to put on your sunglasses, grab a good book, walk your baby to sleep and find a nice shady tree to sit under, either reading or sleeping with your little cherub.

Our warmest conclusion:

– It’s so cold during the winter that there’s not much to do… so why not make a baby!

This is our favorite (and secretly our most likely) reason. I won’t go into detail, but if you’ve ever experienced a Canadian winter, I’m sure you know what I mean!

Regardless of the reason couples choose to have their babies each year during the early summer to early fall season, we’ve learned to be prepared! We design several new gift baskets each year in anticipation of the flood of orders that always come. It’s also important to have themed gift baskets for girls, boys, and neutral (in case customers aren’t sure about the baby’s gender). Our staff always looks forward to designing these cute, frilly baskets that are filled with such soft stuff and the smell of baby powder.

Now, how to get parents to have more babies… hmm… I guess I’ll save that for another article!
