The body was dressed in a fur cap, leather cloak, loincloth and leather shoes. These clothes were probably there to provide protection from strong winds. Beautifying one’s body is often a pleasure for people. It has been discovered that people began to decorate themselves long before they began to dress. Early signs of adornment included painting and tattoos and even jewelry. Other items besides clothing also had a certain importance in society.

More recent scholars now state that clothing represents one’s identity and communicates non-verbally. In some societies, clothing is as functional as language. One’s society’s economy, culture and traditions also inspire what is worn. According to many religions, only the elite class can wear certain items of clothing, while others cannot. Democracies today also reveal the same figures. Wealthy people are dressed in fine designer clothes, and therefore represent social status. Uniforms are another class of clothing that reflects one’s occupation. They are most likely to be worn by the police, students, military and so on. Events also influence what is worn, for example in many societies special clothes are made only for weddings and their sequels. Sportswear is another class of clothing that is made to provide easy movement and protection during games like football, basketball, cricket and so on and so forth.

Clothing has now expanded to many diverse meanings. In high schools, the most desirable students wear something extraordinary that makes them stand out from the teenagers who are called nerds. This difference demarcates the boundaries between these two types of groups.
