Another cause of swollen hemorrhoids is straining too much during bowel movements. They say you should never push hard during a bowel movement, but this makes it almost impossible to get rid of constipation. What is the answer? Avoid constipation in the first place and you will dramatically reduce the occurrence of hemorrhoids!

I’m not a doctor. I am not a nutritionist. I’m just a guy who figured out what to eat and what NOT to eat to avoid those itchy monsters.

Here’s my secret. Avoid eating large amounts of foods such as pizza, bread, sweets and processed foods. Let me repeat… if you eat a lot of bread or pizza or flour products without drinking enough fluids, you’ll get a case of hemorrhoids you won’t soon forget. Chocolate is another enemy. If you like it, eat very small amounts.

The single most effective change you can make to your diet is to drink more water! I don’t like the bland taste of water so I started drinking Gatorade. Drink water or Gatorade and drink lots of it. I guarantee that your hemorrhoids will disappear almost completely. It sounds simple, but I’ll repeat it one more time so it sinks in. DRINK MORE WATER or Gatorade – at least 4 large glasses a day.

Foods and drinks to avoid:

  • Chocolate
  • Pizza
  • Bread (flour products)

  • Fruits (peaches, plums, apricots, apples, pears, etc.)
  • Green vegetable salads
  • Water
  • Ice tea
  • Gatorade
  • Avoid all products that are sealed in vinegar jars. Pickle juice is mostly vinegar. Also, avoid spicy foods that will cause that well-known itching and burning in already inflamed hemorrhoids. Overindulging in white wine or champagne can also cause itching and burning.

    The secret really is in moderation. After I started drinking more fluids, I noticed that weeks went by without hemorrhoids. I decided to treat myself to a hearty meal of my favorite pizza and guess what? No hemorrhoids the next day! Apparently my body was hydrated enough to handle pizza (dough, bread, flour….hemorrhoid starters!) so I thought I was cured for good. I started eating pizza and bread every day and not drinking as much water and of course you know what happened. I suffered from hemorrhoids within days of going back to my old habits.

    The secret of my friends is moderation. Drink plenty of water or Gatorade every day. Eat more fruits and vegetables and your hemorrhoids will disappear almost completely.

    Things you should not do if you suffer from hemorrhoids:

  • Do not spend a long time sitting on the toilet.
  • Do not over wipe.
  • Do not wipe in an up-and-down motion.
  • Do not use rough or stiff toilet paper.
  • RULES:

  • Use witch hazel to relieve pain and cleanse the affected area.
  • Apply witch hazel to soft toilet paper and wipe or dab the affected area.
