Adapted Glenn Doman’s Method to Teach Your Baby How to Read
Adapted learning method
Teaching Even Younger Babies How to Read: A New Experience.
In the experience I gained with my three children, I created Adapted
a learning method based on the first four steps described by Glenn Doman:
– Visual differentiation (how to prepare the material);
– Proper vocabulary (cards that reflect the everyday reality of the baby);
– Vocabulary of the family environment (which reflected the objects that
the baby came into contact with the house, for its daily interactions), and
– Vocabulary for building sentence structures (articles, prepositions, etc.)
adjectives).
Sentences are not introduced as the Doman method suggests for step 5. The
the other steps, including the 5th, were suppressed in our experience, because of our
circumstances, since the babies’ own preferences suggested that these steps would
be skipped, indicating what the brain needs or does not need to experience. When babies
finished reading the entire vocabulary, knew the alphabet and already read
books for primary schools, traffic signals and billboards on the streets.
However, the reading assimilation process was global, from steps 5, 6 and 7
Doman’s method is introduced simultaneously in steps 1, 2, 3 and 4. To explain
it’s better, while I was playing cards with the babies, the whole family
showed them reading as a subject and how reading is represented indirectly
in the context of the community (on television, media and traffic signs).
The brain itself has created mechanisms to find similarities and differences between them
some letters and others and some words and others.
As the process of stimulation in the family environment followed its course, it is
assimilation by babies of words that reflected their placement
the content ultimately resulted in object-object relationships
performances, at such an impressive rate that the babies were two years old
year, they could already read and showed a passion for the game
reading. Babies have also shown that they are ready to write. According to the same
a pleasant process, which they felt while playing with the object until they got bored
the babies played with words. However, the difference was that the words were
part of a very large group, which led the babies to combine them, discover,
and the game continued until the babies showed they could
integrate it.
We are aware that this game of learning will never end, because it started as
but with the baby, the human being will try to deal with it as a whole
existence.
This then leads us to say that a child should be taught to read only at the age of 6
deprive him/her of the opportunity to discover the game of learning
reading at the stage when it can be best experienced – at the earliest age,
when the brain elaborates its first mental schemes, and in which mental
activities were still not limited in their development within the framework of natural and
potential perspectives.
It is very easy to establish a systematic method of teaching the baby how
to read and wait for each stage of development to unfold exactly as we expect. That
it is known that it is only the intention of parents to teach their children to read
early, they can already result in facts that would better differentiate their children
those who haven’t tried it. Even the most disorganized attempt will yield visible results
results, which are the most positive and encouraging results, is worth it
highlighting! The procedure adopted must be very catastrophic or complicated
to give results. It is already possible to gain from the simplicity of this initiative
better results than if the child started learning at the age of 6. at six,
it’s already too late! Curiosity and motivational potentials of the brain would
already then be deactivated. The later you start, the harder the teaching task
to teach a child to read.
Glenn Doman in his book “How to teach a baby to read” confirms that the child
before the age of 5 he is able to absorb a huge amount of information and
it can take in information at an incredible speed. He says that the more information a
the child receives before reaching 5 years of age, the maximum he keeps; and that
the child has enormous amounts of energy for it. In addition, the child code
this age group has a great desire to learn. He/she can learn to read and wants to
to learn to read.
I have learned from my experience that the most important factor is when starting
the process must be sure that the parent(s) will have the right attitude and be adequate
approach, or better, that enthusiasm should be maintained; and that a parent should
do not press or slow down the steps in presenting information to the baby. Others
factor is to take care of the size, format and order of presentation of the material
for the baby to read them.
It is also important to observe the start time of each reading session and
when to finish. Anytime is the best time to start a session
which puts the baby in a good mood. Do not take him/her to read when he/she is nervous, crying,
or dissatisfied. The game activity must be cheerful and playful for the baby as well
and a parent.
The completion time of the gaming activity – which is the main motivation of the method,
it has to be before the baby loses interest, so that way we can guarantee that it will
the baby will want to repeat the activity and experience a moment of happiness to be with him
parent. At that moment, the baby enjoys the company of the parents and plays
with new knowledge and information. It is necessary to know exactly what a baby is
thinking, or better, to know his/her reaction in order to end each session sooner
his/her desire to do so. The reader must imagine that this is impossible to do.
But it’s not like that. After a few sessions, it is possible to spot exactly when the time is
to move the baby away from the card. If you have more than one baby, you will see
that everyone has their own rhythm, as I have determined with mine.
