Disney Baltic Cruise

I would like to explain what my family and I did each day while enjoying our family vacation on the Disney Magic;

Day 1; We arrived at the port in Copenhagen, Denmark around 13:00, although you can board as early as 11:00. We gave ourselves 3 hours to board (the ship departs at 4pm) so we could explore Copenhagen before going on holiday. This day included exploring the ship and signing up for the kids’ clubs. One of the amazing things about Disney is their kids clubs. They have rooms for children of different ages to socialize, participate in activities and make new friends. This gives parents a chance to have some alone time and know that their children are safe and having fun. After exploring the ship, everyone gathered on Deck 9 to set sail and have fun during “Mickey’s Sailing Away Party”. During this, everyone waves to the travelers staying in Copenhagen and dances along with Mickey and his friends on stage. Once this was over, we headed to the theater show at 6:30 p.m. Depending on the dinner time you request (18:00 or 20:30), you will see a theater performance at 18:30 or 20:30, the opposite time you eat dinner. I absolutely love the shows. Disney does an amazing job of coming up with themes and special performances to entertain their audiences.

The second day was “Day at the Sea”, which means we didn’t stop anywhere. We enjoyed our day watching Disney movies at the Buena Vista Theater, participating in games at Vibe (teen club), dining at Cabanas (deck 9 buffet), enjoying another theater show, and dining at one of three rotating dining restaurants (Lumiere’s, Animators Palate or Cariocas.) Depending on your room card, you will rotate between these three different delicious restaurants. This evening included a gala dinner. This means we were encouraged to dress fancy (like dresses and skirts or suits for men.) A day at sea is, in my opinion, one of the best days on a ship. Disney offers guests the option of Cabanas (a buffet on Deck 9), Lumiere’s (one of 3 rotating restaurants), or one of the quick service restaurants on Deck 9. Quick service restaurants include Daisy’s Delights (sandwich, salad stand, fruit and cookies), Pete’s Boiler Bites (hamburger, hotdog, taco, etc… an American food stand) and Pinocchio’s Pizza (a pizza stand where you can make any pizza you want.) Disney. Magic does a fantastic job of creating A-grade food all day long and making sure the food cooks in a fast way but keeps the taste amazing. Now, food isn’t the only reason I absolutely love a day at the beach. While the food is a key factor, Disney also provides its guests with a news article each night, allowing them to see what activities are in store for them the next day (you also have the option of using their Disney Cruise Line app to see each day’s activities and menus.) This activity sheet is always filled with karaoke, newly released movies, exercise games and more during your day at sea. Disney makes sure their guests always have something fun and new to do on board, knowing that some may get bored with nowhere to dock.

On the third day we stopped in Tallinn, Estonia. We arrived and walked around the Old Town of Tallinn, which gave us a real idea of their culture. We also explored the Russian Orthodox Cathedral, the Estonian Maritime Museum (an old prison) and Fat Margaret’s Tower (a large building next to the ship). As most of you know, the weather is very difficult in Northern Europe. Knowing this, I packed a variety of different clothes and layers. Tallinn stayed in the 60 degree F area for most of our visit, which was amazing. I wore leggings (lululemon), a tank top (lululemon), a long sweater (Madewell) and sneakers (New Balance). My dad and brother could only wear shorts and a shirt, so it really depends on your tolerance for cold weather. I’m a little girl, so the wind was a little chilly for me, explaining the long sweater.

On the fourth day we stopped in St. Petersburg, Russia. On this day we decided to take a bus driver and a tour guide (Alla Tours.) St. Petersburg had multiple churches (Church of Spilled Blood for example) and palaces (Catherine’s Palace) so we needed someone to help us find our way around . I recommend you find a tour guide you trust (like Alla Tours) because during our visit to Catherine’s Palace (and several other city monuments), the line wrapped around the building to get in, but our guide found a way to skip the line and sneak us, in just 15 minutes. As in Tallinn, the weather in St. Petersburg was very strange. The morning was chilly and forced me to wear a scarf (Madewell) and a thick jacket (Madewell), but later in the day the temperature got warmer (perhaps 67 degrees F) which allowed me to wear only a light rain jacket (Spice) because St. Petersburg sprinkled from time to time. There was no theater performance this night as everyone was at 11:30pm. This means that you had the option to stay in Russia until 11:30 PM or come earlier and have dinner, but no performance.

Day 5 we stopped in Helsinki, Finland. This day was a little shorter because everything was around 5 pm. We decided to ride the carousel to see the city and take a boat ride to explore a small island with a history of Finland (Suomenlinna.) We didn’t realize how big and historical Suomenlinna is, so we didn’t get to see all of its rich history. I recommend spending more hours here, if you decide to visit this location in Finland. This evening included a semi-formal dinner. This means that for dinner we had to dress a little nicer than usual, to take pictures. Disney does not require you to dress up any night on the cruise, but on these special nights, it is highly encouraged. I wore a mini skirt (Abercrombie & Fitch), tank top (American Eagle) and sandals (Tory Burch).

On the sixth day we stopped in Stockholm, Sweden. This day was even shorter because everything was at 15:30. We decided to visit the Armory and the Royal Palace next to it. If you are traveling with some boys or men, I recommend visiting the Armory. It was really cool for my brother and dad to see all the military armor, weapons and royal carriages. We also bought tickets for the Hop on Hop off bus, but it was very busy and crowded (due to all the ships that docked in Stockholm that day), I would not recommend buying a ticket for this bus in this city. This evening Disney included “Anna & Elsa’s Frozen Deck Party”, which meant we all went up to Deck 9 before dinner to watch the Frozen characters dance and sing on stage. Disney also changed their theater show this evening. Unlike their usual Broadway style show, they gave us a comedian show.

Day 7 was our last day, meaning it was another “Day at Sea”. This day was similar to Day 2, except the cruise included activities such as booking all your memories and playing diapers (a race between babies who can crawl). Usually my family and I prefer to have lunch at Cabanas (the all-you-can-eat buffet is always good), but this day my dad and I decided to try Lumiere for lunch. I had a cuban sandwich and veal parmesan with pasta (two entrees were a must on this day) and my dad had shrimp and pad thai noodles. Both meals were fantastic! Disney has once again found a way to delight us. As the day drew to a close, we enjoyed the final show (Disney Dreams) and dinner at the Animators Palate (one of three rotating restaurants.) After all was done, the cruise ended the day with a “See You Soon” party in the Lobby Atrium on deck 3. This show included a farewell to all the characters on board and a pin trading session (all guests on board came together to exchange their Disney pins.)

Day 8 was our last morning on the ship, which meant you went to breakfast where you had dinner the night before or ate at Cabanas (buffet on deck 9) For my family and I, we ate at Animators Palate once more . After the last meal on board, everyone disembarked and headed to the airport to fly home. Disney allows all of their guests to eat and explore the ship before leaving, which was nice because we didn’t feel rushed to get off the ship and let new guests start their vacation.
