To the Christian Youths – Sexual Temptations, God’s Standard on Masturbation and Some Encouragements

Before starting the topic, we can concentrate on the general view of sex if it is not controlled. Sex is like electricity, which is a huge force for good, it drives machines, it drives light to illuminate the earth’s darkness, it even works in hospitals to heal the sick.

But when the current runs wild, it’s a terrible force for evil. Lightning breaks trees and houses and kills helpless people. Short circuits cause fires that consume millions of buildings. Millions of good people have been shattered by the misuse of sex, their lives twisted or battered as if struck by lightning or short-circuited to burn out their very souls. They look good on the outside; you might never guess that sexual mistakes have almost killed their happiness inside, except for the sad look in their eyes that reveals the truth they would like to hide. Many beautiful houses that excite our envy are filled with desolate cold within, for they are not happy homes, though electric lights cast an inviting glow in the evening twilight. The true light has disappeared, sexual mistakes have poisoned the very sources of life in the home.

Masturbation: Is it harmful?

Some doctors and psychiatrists claim that there is nothing harmful about masturbation. But common sense tells us that it is unnatural, and therefore not what God intended. For many years it was called a “secret vice,” and the word “secret” reveals that it is a practice of which one is ashamed. There’s a reason many feel guilty when they practice it: masturbation is also called “self-abuse,” and since God loves us and wants us to be sexually happy, abusing ourselves in this way is contrary to His loving will.

The fact that one’s genitals can be stimulated or aroused early in life does not mean that it is normal or healthy. Although the child’s biological development allows him to feel sexual stimulation, his exercise should wait for the time of maturity that is yet to come. Picking fruit when it is green sometimes means it will never be good to eat. Everything in the Bible about love and sex tells us that God created our sexual organs for the expression of love in marriage and for the purpose of reproduction, not just for self-pleasure. “The body is not used for sexual immorality, but to serve the Lord.” “Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourselves, but to God; He bought you with a price. bodies to the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 6:13 , 19, 20).

What was the price? Sacrifice of Christ on His Cross. Self-love, such as self-indulgence (actually, self-abuse), becomes very difficult for anyone who begins to understand Christ’s love for him or her. In the light, you consider your body His property. Masturbation is using something God has given in a way He does not intend. Some call it ‘solo sex’, and God does not want it to be enjoyed. Masturbation can become a compulsive habit, driving its victims in the same way as alcoholism or drug addiction. Many want to quit, but don’t know how. Testimonies from those who have been victims but found deliverance in the gospel of Jesus Christ include the following points on how to gain victory:

. As an alcoholic does, confess to God your inability to control this habit and ask Him for deliverance.

. Accept by faith your deliverance in Christ and accordingly exercise your freedom of choice by the right exercise of your will. As the cigarette victim finds a way to stop by saying, “I have decided not to smoke,” so he decides to refuse the temptation. “The grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all people. It teaches us to say ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, honest and godly in this present age” (Titus 2:11, 12). Be patient and keep saying “No!” to temptation, and you can win the battle.

. An idle mind is the devil’s workshop. Give your mind and your body something useful to do. Many times this temptation will disappear through one’s busy schedules, but with activities that are worthwhile. Don’t allow yourself to be too alone – help other people and that way you will grow out of the self-pity and loneliness that makes this perversion attractive. Then you will see how this “grace of God” works to deliver us not only from this form of “self-abuse” but also from all the selfish evils that are destructive to our true happiness.

The captives of this habit cried out, “O wretch [or woman] it’s me! who will deliver me from the body of this death?” And they rejoiced, saying, “I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 7:24, 25. And you can look for this promise: “To him who overcomes will I grant to sit with me on my throne” (Revelation 3:21).

Embarrassing teenage sexual development

All of the things that come before this particular one are very practical in a teenager’s life in general. In the early teenage years (sometimes earlier) girls begin monthly periods known as periods. They need a wise and understanding woman to explain this new development in their lives. They need to know that there is nothing wrong with it, so that they do not feel an abnormal sense of shame. In most cases mothers are able to explain. Boys also begin to feel the emergence of sexual power in themselves in their teenage years, they discover that their genitals are very sensitive to stimulation, and their testicles begin to function. boys become aware of it through “wet dreams” or what is called “night discharge”.

These things happen while the boy is sleeping and he is sometimes worried about them. Are they sinful? Why did God make us this way? David prayed, “You made every part of me. Everything you do is wonderful and wonderful” (Psalm 139:13-14). God invented and created our sexual powers. This early evidence of sexual ability is not a sign of sin, nor that the boy should begin sexual activity; it is proof that his body is growing and developing. But he is not yet ready for sexual intercourse. He should rule and control his body. The Bible teaches us to put our body “under complete control” (1 Corinthians 9:27), that is, “avoid immorality. The man who is guilty of sexual immorality sins against his own body” (1 Corinthians 6:18).

Remember, however, that temptation is not sin. Giving in to it is a sin. This means that your sexual awakening powers will be like voices calling you to participate in sexual sin; you will have feelings that are like a strong tide in a rushing river. If you give in to pressure from within and without, you will be swept down the river. But if you have faith in Christ, you don’t have to give in. As a man, He felt the full force of all the south tide that you feel; He was once a young man, just like you, “tempted in all things as we are, yet without him” (Hebrews 4:15).

We must clarify these two things in the mind: they are separate. To feel temptation from within or without is not in itself a sin; sin comes only when you say yes. And you are the one who chooses; you are the ‘boss’. Satan can never make you sin. He is compelled to obey you when you choose, in the name of Christ, to say ‘no’.
